Remote, proximity and smart-key help
Key fob replacement in Dayton
“Key fob” can describe several different devices: a remote attached to a mechanical key, a remote-head key, a proximity fob for push-button start or a smart key with an emergency blade. Identifying the correct type is important before parts are ordered or someone is dispatched.
Replacement is not always the same as programming
A compatible fob may need to be sourced, an emergency blade may need to be cut, and electronic functions may need to be registered to the vehicle. A provider should confirm support for the exact year, make, model and key system.
Questions worth asking
- Is the quoted fob new, refurbished, aftermarket or original-equipment?
- Does the estimate include the fob, cutting and programming?
- Will lock, unlock, trunk and remote-start functions be tested?
- Can the job be completed if every original key is missing?
- What warranty, if any, applies to the part and programming?
A low advertised price may cover only one part of the job. Ask for the expected total and what circumstances could change it.
No universal compatibility claim: Dayton Car Key Help does not claim that one provider can program every vehicle. Compatibility should be verified before dispatch.
