Push-to-start and smart-key replacement

Push-button-start vehicles commonly use a proximity fob that communicates electronically with the vehicle. A replacement may involve a compatible fob, an emergency blade and vehicle-specific programming.

Start with exact vehicle information

Similar-looking fobs are not necessarily interchangeable. Provide the full model year, make, model and trim when known. A provider should verify the relevant part and programming capability before dispatch.

If the vehicle says “key not detected”

The cause is not always a permanently lost or failed fob. A depleted fob battery, vehicle battery issue, damaged fob or other electronic problem may produce similar symptoms. Follow the vehicle owner’s manual for approved emergency-start or battery procedures; do not rely on generic instructions that may not fit the vehicle.

Questions for a replacement quote

• Is the fob compatible with the exact vehicle configuration?
• Is an emergency blade included and cut?
• Are all remote and proximity functions tested?
• Can old lost fobs be addressed where the vehicle supports that procedure?
• What part and labor warranty applies?
